How My mobile vet nurse was created
I grew up in the town of Broken Hill and moved to Adelaide at the end of year 12 to study Animal Technology. I knew I wanted to study and work with animals but was I wanting a career with wildlife, in a medical setting or even National Parks? It was not long before Vet Nursing won my heart. After a fantastic work experience placement that was meant to last a week, I ended up staying for nearly 8 years. Completing my Nursing qualification I then branched out to explore a couple of other clinics.I loved so many aspects of Veterinary Nursing. Assisting with surgical procedures, the gross cat abscess, patient hospital care, Nutrition consults, front desk duties and practice management. I loved seeing the hospital cases recover and go home after endless hours of nursing them through their illness. Despite loving all of this, my passion always fell back with helping the client with their pet. I was lucky and privileged to work for many years running puppy pre-schools. Helping owners understand the importance of training and socialisation and I would love helping with their puppy behaviour problems. I found myself attending more and more animal behaviour seminars, online courses and eventually was seeing clients in consults for all types of animal behaviour issues. After having two children (to add to my fur children) my interest started to change again. I started to notice the mum with four kids struggling to get everyone out the car along with her bouncy dog, to sit in the waiting room for what probably seemed like an eternity to her as we were ‘always running behind’. I noticed the elderly lady catch a taxi to the clinic with her cat screaming in the cage and then to have to sit and wait for the taxi to return once she finished her appointment. It all just looked stressful, for the client and their pet. Some of these clients did need to see the Vet but so many did not. The pet nail trims, applying daily ear medication for the elderly lady’s dog, palliative care for the 16yr old cat, dental checks, weight consults, worming the tricky cat. The list goes on, and that is how My Mobile Vet Nurse was created. It took many years of thought and planning, and I am happy to say it has been worth it. I am loving working with all your pets and seeing how easy it is for you to have a Nurse visit your home. I now see the personality of your pets, and this is something we often miss while working in clinic.
In recent times I have studied with the National Cat Grooming Institute and feel very proud to offer you-Stylish Whiskers! A feline exclusive cat grooming salon. I look forward to meeting you when your pet needs a Mobile Vet Nurse or a Stylish kitty.Nicole 🐾💜
